I'm quite brand loyal and will stick to a manufacturer once I'm happy with the quality of a product. I have a Canon pro-sumer camera and was looking for something small to stick in my pocket, rather than having to carry a set of kit 'just in case'. I was initially going for one of the SX range because of the range of manual settings, but decided against it as if it was a picture that demanded this level of input from the user I'd probably feel more comfortable with my DSLR. Anyway, the price tempted me (I paid £84.00 and it's gone up since) and it seemed to be a steal at that price. First impressions were good, it has a typical Canon 'weighty' feel to it and the features are well laid out. There is an element of manual control, but I really do think that a full range of AV, TV and manual settings aren't really appropriate with such a small sensor and limited apertures so I'm glad I went for this option.
Pictue quality is good, the colours are well defined and there are a host of programmed options to shoot with. What is really helpful is that you can see from the screen what shutter and aperture values you're using so you should get an idea of how your shot will turn out.
If I have one gripe (hence the 4 stars), it's the battery cover - it doean't really click into place very well and isn't very robust. We'll see how long it lasts....
